Estremoz is a Portuguese city in the District of Évora, Alentejo region.
The municipality of Estremoz is divided into 13 “freguesías” or neighbourhoods. It borders to the north with Sousel and Fronteira, to the northeast with Monforte, to the southeast with Borba, to the south with Redondo and to the west with Évora and Arraiolos.
It is known for its marble quarries, its pottery and is known as “the marble city”.
The city has a great commercial activity with numerous stores that sell tools and agricultural products, handicrafts, ceramics and tasty delicacies that the most demanding palates will enjoy with great pleasure.
The city is surrounded by an ancient wall and dominated by the silhouette of its 13th-century medieval castle. In it, this pottery town is happy with the colours of its pottery, famous since the 16th century and the streets and squares of its medieval centre are adorned by rows of orange trees. The main square is that of Rossio Marquês de Pombal, popularly known as “El Rossio”.
