A wonderful trip to Ávila with the Chapín Group
One of the cities with the greatest history and artistic interest in Spain. Small break to Ávila with Chapín.
This city of just over 57,000 inhabitants is internationally known for its surrounding wall. But Ávila is much more than this. A step away from the Capital Madrid, Ávila is one of the most attractive and historical enclaves of Castilla y León. Here we can enjoy an important artistic heritage, archaeological sites, civil and religious architecture, gastronomy, festivals and traditions. Today we invite you to a trip to Ávila
Things to visit that you should not lose
- The wall. It is the international image of Ávila. With a perimeter of 2,516 meters and an almost rectangular shape, it is one of the few in the world that is complete along with that of Segovia and Lugo. Although it is a long walk, if you stay several days, I recommend you take a whole tour and appreciate the expansions and the details that it hides. It was built between the eleventh and fourteenth centuries and it is the largest fully illuminated monument in the world. The wall can be visited and walked.
- The Cathedral of El Salvador de Ávila. Gothic Cathedral that began in the 11th century. Avila´s Cathedral is pioneer in many aspects. It is the first that introduced the Gothic style in its construction, being the oldest Gothic cathedral in Spain. It is also the first Spanish cathedral to be part of the list of the World Heritage. The interior is one of the most unique in Spain and it is worth letting yourself be imbued with its magic even if it is by sitting on a bench.
- The 4 Columns. The best view of the walls and the city is from those 4 pillars. You will be able to appreciate a wonderful panorama from the outskirts, across the Adaja River.
- Marketplace. A small medieval-style square, with arcades, towers and the town hall of the city, a good place to enjoy a snack or to buy the typical sweet of the yolks of Ávila.
- Santa Teresa de Jesus Square. It is located outside the walled area of Ávila through the Alcazar gate. Here you will find the largest market in the city held in times. The church of San Pedro is located there.
- Basilica of San Vicente. It is the most important church in Ávila after the cathedral. The Romanesque church is in the place where it is believed that St. Vincent was martyred in 300 AD. Much of the church was built in the early 12th century.
- Gastronomy. Ávila is known for its roasts, also in its restaurants we can taste the veal t-bone steak. For the most carnivorous, this last dish is an absolute delicacy. In addition, it is also the ideal place to enjoy revolconas potatoes, blood sausage or Castilian soup. And for dessert the yolks of Ávila or yolks of Santa Teresa is a nice sweet reconfort.
